TH1-RELATED
CYTOKINES
GENE EXPRESSION

OVERVIEW EXPLANATION

The Th1 response is one of the principle activities of the Immune System and is a very important factor in the defence against illness. As part of the battle against most forms of infection Th1 cells are released into the blood. These Th1 cells produce some very important substances such as Interleukin 2, IFN ? and TNF ? all of which are Cytokines. These particular Cytokines play a very special role by activating or inhibiting, as appropriate, processes which are able to negate the harmful effects of infections. Any long term increase of Th1 will result in a dominance of the destruction process whereas low quantities will allow the infections to reign supreme.

DETAILED EXPLANATION

The Th1 immune response is one of the main types of activity of the immune (defence) system and it is known as cellular immunological response (immunity). Cellular immunity naturally rises at night and, at any time, in response to invading infectious species (bacteria and viruses), trauma and strong emotional events. As a form of protection from these health damaging factors the Immune System produces, and releases into the blood circulation, helper cells, e.g. T lymphocytes called Th1 cells. Activated Th1 cells then produce and release very special substances called Cytokines, such as Interleukin 2, Interferon Gamma and Tumour Necrosis Factor Beta. These Cytokines will activate, or inhibit, various processes both in the body and the brain which will neutralise the harmful effects of the factors mentioned above. This assay is designed to evaluate the state of the acquired cellular immunological activity.

High Th1-related Cytokines gene expression quantities are associated with an increase of Th1 immune response which, in the long-term, will lead to a dominance of damaging inflammatory / destructive processes in the body and the brain, followed by the development of auto-immunity, e.g. destructive / damaging reaction against natural important substances in the body and the brain. Low quantities are associated with a vulnerability from the influence of infectious species, trauma and strong emotional events. Eventually, such a kind of immunodeficiency will result in the development of a number of illnesses.

APPLICATION

This assay will provide extremely valuable and accurate information relating to all pathological conditions.
